Communication Kings and Queens

A Social Skills and Communication program for 7 – 12 year olds.

This engaging 8-week Telehealth program provides the perfect opportunity for children to sharpen their social skills sword. The Communication Kings and Queens program has been custom designed by our Speech Pathologists who have years of experience providing therapy targeted towards social skills, communication development and pragmatic language in both group and individual settings.

Children will click on, connect, and converse with their therapist and each other through our secure Telehealth platform. This exciting program is available from May 2020, and we are currently accepting registrations.

Program Structure:

  • The program consists of 8 x 1hr weekly or fortnightly sessions via Telehealth.
  • As of May 2020, our availability for the program are on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please contact client services on 9890 1062 for our most up-to-date available time slots.
  • Clients who are new to Melbourne Child Development are welcome to join the program. You will need to book in for an initial Pre-Program Assessment to ensure suitability for the program.
  • Individual or group therapy options are available for this course. Group programs are dependent on children being suitably matched.

Program Costs:

  • Pre-program Assessment costs $151 per child for a 30-minute assessment (for new clients only).
  • Individual Sessions cost $272 per child, per 1-hour session.
  • Group Sessions cost $181 per child, per 1-hour session.

  • Tuesdays weekly at 2pm

Funding and Rebate Options for the Telehealth Communication Kings and Queens Program

  • Helping Children with Autism and Better Start for Children with a Disability (FaHCSIA) – Children who are registered under this funding may use it for these sessions.
  • Medicare – Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) (previously named EPC – Enhanced Primary Care Plan) – Your General Practitioner is the person who determines whether your child qualifies for this program. These Medicare rebated session can only be used for individual therapy sessions or the pre-program assessment and cannot be used for group sessions.
  • Medicare – Helping Children with Autism and Better Start for Children with a Disability – Your Paediatrician/Psychiatrist/General Practitioner (GP only for Better Start for Children with a Disability) is the person who will determine if your child is eligible for this program. These Medicare rebated session can only be used for individual therapy sessions or the pre-program assessment and cannot be used for group sessions.
  • Private Health Insurance – Check with your Private Health insurer to see if you are covered for Speech Pathology Group sessions in your extras cover.
  • NDIS – Children who are registered under this funding program may be able to use it for these sessions. Please check your plan, and if necessary discuss with your plan manager if there will be any out of pocket expenses (e.g. Third-party managed plans). Please note that Melbourne Child Development has decided not to become a registered NDIS provider – those with an NDIA managed plan will need to seek an NDIS registered provider.

Program Terms and Conditions

  • A cancellation fee of 50% of the per session cost will apply if cancelled within 2 business days of the session time. Cancellation fees are usually the responsibility of the parent/carer as most funding and rebate programs do not cover these.
  • Enrolment into this program requires a commitment to all sessions.
